In the heart of Falls Church, Virginia, Creative Cauldron is set to bring back its much-anticipated annual Holiday show - Madeline's Christmas. This musical adaptation, based on the classic story by Ludwig Bemelmans, is a true family favorite. With a book and lyrics by Jennifer Kirkeby and music by Shirley Mier, it promises to be a magical experience.

Setting the Stage

The show is directed by Helen Hayes Awards winner and Artistic Associate Matt Conner, with music direction by Merissa Anne Driscoll. The set and costumes, designed by Margie Jervis, a two-time Arts Fairfax Strauss Award-winning artist, pay homage to the classic Bemelman's illustrations. Margie has been enchanting audiences with her designs for the past 13 years in both professional and Learning Theater productions at Creative Cauldron.The iconic role of Madeline will be played by June Tuss and Penny Soulen. June recently stole the show as Alice in Alice in Wonderland/Alicia en el País de las Maravillas at Creative Cauldron. Penny Soulen will make her debut at Creative Cauldron with this production. The "twelve little girls" and other characters will be brought to life by the Musical Theater Ensemble, an educational theater program composed of elementary and middle school-aged students.

The Christmas Journey

In this musical adaptation, Madeline's schoolmates and tutor are sick in bed on Christmas Eve, unable to go home. But Madeline comes to the rescue with the help of a magical rug merchant. They embark on a Christmas journey that they will never forget. This story has become a Holiday tradition at Creative Cauldron, attracting a multi-generational audience and fans of the Bemelman's book series.The professional cast members include Creative Cauldron veteran Shaina Kuhn as Miss Clavel, who has appeared in various theaters. Audrey Baker returns as Mrs. Murphy after the Bold New Voices production. Josh Carias makes his Creative Cauldron debut as Monsieur Brun/Harsha, having been in several other productions.

Show Schedule

The show runs from December 6 – 22, 2024. There are performances on Fridays at 7:30 pm, Saturdays at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

Creative Cauldron is an award-winning non-profit theater and educational arts organization. Founded by Artistic Director Laura Connors Hull in 2002, it embodies collaboration, experimentation, and community engagement.
